Nairobi County Governor, Johnson Sakaja, has introduced new fees and taxes in various sectors and business operations within Nairobi City. The changes are contained in Nairobi Finance Act for the year 2023.
The county has increased fees for various services that it offers as it seeks to generate additional revenue to finance the operation of the county.
Nairobi County Fees and Charges
Below are new Nairobi City fees and charges for various services
1. Parking Fees
- First hour: Sh100
- Each subsequent hour: Sh50
- Saloon car (non-automated areas): Sh300
- Van or pick-up (non-automated areas): Sh500
- Lorries above five tonnes (non-automated areas): Sh3,000
2. Loading or Offloading Zone Fee:
- Annual permit fee: Sh250,000
3. Private Parking Slot Fee:
- Daily fee: Sh1,500
4. Displaying Vehicle for Sale (advertising)
- The annual fee for road reserve display: Sh15,000 per square meter
5. PSV Saccos License Fees
- Over 51 vehicles: Sh200,000 annually
- 31-50 vehicles: Sh150,000 annually
- 6-30 vehicles: Sh50,000 annually
6. Market Access Fee
- Small traders: Sh50 daily
- Pitching Tent: Sh 2500 daily
7. Hawking Fee
- Hawkers: Sh50 daily
- Hawker with Motor Vehicle Fee (Annual permit fee): Sh7,000
8. Rental Charges for Stalls
- 10% increase in rental charges
9. Food Handler’s Medical Certificate
- Certificate: Sh1,500
10. Exhibition Fees
- Individual: Sh1,000 – Sh20,000
- Group: Sh1,000 – Sh20,000
- Corporate: Sh1,000 – Sh20,000
11. Mobile Toilet Operation
- Fee range: Sh5,000 – Sh15,000 (depending on the number of toilets)
12. Transporting and Treating Medical Waste
- Truck transport fee: Sh5,000 per truck
- Incinerator treatment fee: Sh10,000
- Microwave and autoclave treatment fee: Sh10,000
13. Institution Inspection Fee
- Small daycares ( less than 20 babies): Sh2,000 (and doubles for more than 20 babies)
14. Building Inspection Fee
- Fee range: Sh10,000 – Sh50,000 per report (depending on the number of units)
15. Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
- Annual fee range: Sh4,500 – Sh10,000 (depending on the number of charging ports)
16. Temporary Road Reserve Use
- Shoe shiners, newspaper vendors, modern kiosk owners: Sh5,000 – Sh50,000
17. Closure of Public Roads (for events)
- For use per day: Sh50,000
18. Betting Company Fees
- Application/renewal fee per premise or shop: Sh10,000
- Grant fee per premise: Sh600,000
19. Pool Table and Gambling Penalty
- Operating unlicensed pool tables: Sh10,000
- Gambling in an unlicensed premise: Sh5,000
20. City Mortuary Charges:
- Preservation charges: Sh500 daily (first 10 days), Sh700 daily (after 10 days)
21. Embalming and Post-Mortem Fees:
- Embalming fee: Sh2,500 (children and infants), Sh3,000 (adults)
- Post-mortem examination fee: Sh5,000 (adults), Sh3,000 (children), Sh1,500 (infants) on weekdays; Sh8,000 on weekends, holidays, or after-work hours
22. Lang’ata Cemetery Fees:
- Permanent grave fee (adults, Nairobi residents): Sh30,500
- Permanent grave fee (adults, non-City residents): Sh40,000
- Permanent grave fee (children, Nairobi residents): Sh22,500
- Permanent grave fee (children, non-City residents): Sh28,500
- Permanent grave fee (infants, Nairobi residents): Sh15,500
- Permanent grave fee (infants, non-City residents): Sh21,500
- Permanent grave fee (non-Kenyan citizens): Sh50,000 (adults), Sh35,000 (children)
- Cremation fee: Sh20,000 (adults), Sh16,000 (children), Sh14,000 (infants)
23. Exhumation and Grave Reopening Fees
- Exhumation fee: Sh50,000 (adults), Sh30,000 (children), Sh25,000 (infants)
- Grave reopening fee: Sh50,000 (adults), Sh35,000 (children), Sh25,000 (infants)
24. Referral of Non-Emergency Patients
- Within Nairobi (within 15km): Sh2,500
- Beyond 15km and outside Nairobi (per kilometer): Sh75
