KNEC Grade 3 National Examinations and Registration Dates


Grade 3 pupils will be sitting for KEYA Nationals Exams in Kenya supervised by KNEC between September 16th 2019 and September 20, 2019, this is according to the education Ministry.

CBC Grade 3 in Kenya

In the competency Based Curriculum (CBC) that is 2-6-3-3-3, Grade 3 replaces what was previously known as Standard 3.

As at June 2019, the new curriculum was only taught in PP1, PP2, Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3. CBC will be rolled out to other classes later in the year.

Grade 3 falls under Lower Primary in the new competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya.

The following are Key subjects taught in Grade three in Kenya;

  • Literacy Activities
  • Kiswahili Language Activities or Kenya Sign Language for the deaf
  • English Language Activities
  • Mathematical Activities
  • Environmental Activities
  • Hygiene and Nutrition Activities
  • Religious Activities
  • Movement and Creative Activities
  • Pastoral Programme of Instruction

Grade 3 National Exam Registration Dates and Timetable

Teachers will need to visit KNEC KEYA portal and register their candidates for Kenya Early Years Assessment (KEYA).

Registration dates are open from 1st July to 30th August 2019.

Grade 3 National Exams Area of Examination

The following areas will be examined in Grade 3 National exams before graduating to grade 4 to determine the learners knowledge, skills, values and attitude;

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Integrated Learning (Kiswahili or KSL, Environmental, Movement, creative, religious, hygiene and nutrition activities)
