Education CS George Magoha has revoked the appointment of Prof Stephen Gitahi Kiama as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi (UON).

In a press release and gazette notice dated 17th January 2020, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha revoked the appointment of Prof Stephen Gitahi Kiama as University of Nairobi vice chancellor due to differences that emerged after his appointment.

A section of the university staff opposed to the appointment of professor Stephen Kiama indicated that the process of recruitment was not fair. 

Prof Isaac Mbeche will remain as the acting vice chancellor until the process of appointment is redone again.

In the same Gazette notice, Prof. George Magoha also revoked the appointment of DR. Julia Ojiambo as the chairperson of the council of University of Nairobi and flora mtuweta mighulo, jocelyn marie rarieya, hassan abdi mohamud, Isaac Chebon Kiprop and Kariuki Muchemi as members of council.

Reaction from the Public on the revocation

Kevin Osiga: Kiama was incompetent, I suspect mischief in his appointment as VC,.. Thanks CS Magoha for acting swiftly, Mbeche should have been confirmed since he was already in acting capacity.
