Revocation of Prof Stephen Gitahi Kiama as UON Vice Chancellor
In a press release and gazette notice dated 17th January 2020, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha revoked the appointment of Prof Stephen Gitahi Kiama as University of Nairobi vice chancellor due to differences that emerged after his appointment.
A section of the university staff opposed to the appointment of professor Stephen Kiama indicated that the process of recruitment was not fair.
Prof Isaac Mbeche will remain as the acting vice chancellor until the process of appointment is redone again.
In the same Gazette notice, Prof. George Magoha also revoked the appointment of DR. Julia Ojiambo as the chairperson of the council of University of Nairobi and flora mtuweta mighulo, jocelyn marie rarieya, hassan abdi mohamud, Isaac Chebon Kiprop and Kariuki Muchemi as members of council.
Reaction from the Public on the revocation
Kevin Osiga: Kiama was incompetent, I suspect mischief in his appointment as VC,.. Thanks CS Magoha for acting swiftly, Mbeche should have been confirmed since he was already in acting capacity.
Ayodo: Good move. Appointments to public institutions must mirror the face of Kenya
