New TSC UoN Minet Medical Insurance Cover Scheme for teachers

TSC New Minet Medical Insurance Cover Scheme increased to Ksh 2.5 million


In the wake of complaints from teachers, the teachers service commission (TSC) in partnership with UoN Minet Insurance has decided to increase minet medial cover for inpatients to between ksh. 750,000 to 2.5 million. Initial cover was from between ksh. 500,000 to  Ksh. 1.5 million for inpatient.

TSC Circular on Medical Cover Increase

In a circular released by TSC on Thursday 12th March 2020, CEO Nancy Macharia indicated that the medical cover increase will cater for over 300,000 teachers who are aged between 18th to 65 years.

Other beneficiaries of the scheme also include One legal spouse to the teacher and upto 4 dependent children of upto age 18 years or upto to 25 years if they are still in university or college. Age limit does not apply to children with disabilities.

Some of the services that will be covered are inpatient and outpatient, optical, maternity, dental and international treatment.

Revised Minet Insurance Cover for teachers

The services covered will be as follows per job group;

Job Group B5 , C1 and C2

  • Outpatient: ksh. 100,000
  • Inpatient: ksh. 750,000
  • Dental: Ksh. 35,000
  • Optical: 45,000
  • Maternity: ksh. 100,000
  • Group life: ksh. 450,000
  • Last expense: 200,000
  • International referral: ksh. 1,000,000
  • International Travel: ksh. 200,000

Job Group c3

  • Outpatient: ksh. 100,000
  • Inpatient: ksh. 850,000
  • Dental: Ksh. 35,000
  • Optical: 45,000
  • Maternity: ksh. 100,000
  • Group life: ksh. 550,000
  • Last expense: 200,000

Minet Group Life and Last Expense Benefit

Minet will pay the group life benefits to the next of kin upon the death of the registered teacher. Original Death certificate, burial permit, ID of the deceased, copy of next of kin ID, and Bank account details of next of Kin must be availed at Minet at the earliest time to benefit from Group Life.

Last expense is paid to cater for funeral expenses.
