President Uhuru’s statement on the closure of schools (March 2021)

On Friday 26th March 2021, President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a statement where he asked all learning institutions including universities to be closed by 27th March 2021. Below is a summary of the statement.

Closure of schools in March 2021                        

All learning institutions that is pre-primary, primary schools, secondary schools, tvet, colleges and universities shall be closed for physical learning on Saturday 27th March 2021.

Only candidates sitting for examinations and students in medical institutions shall be allowed to be in school.

Online learning is allowed to continue

Reasons for Curfew in March 2021

In his statement, President Uhuru Kenyatta indicated that the positivity rate in Kenya had jumped from 2% in January 2021 to 22% in March 2021. Which means that if you test 100 people for COVID-19, 22 of them will turn positive which was a worrying trend.

The number of people who die from COVID-19 each day had also risen from 3 in a day in January 2021 to 7 in a day in March 2021.

The number of those in ICU had also risen from 20 in January 2021 to 950 February 2021.

Curfew Hours in March 2021

As from 27th March 2021 12:00 AM, you are supposed to be in your house by 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM. The curfew will last for 60 days (from 27th March 2021 to 27 May 2021) unless extended
