Team Melvin (the winning team)

Since the change of the University of Nairobi Student’s Association (formerly SONU) UNSA constitution, the chair is elected through a coalition or team and electoral colleges.

There were four coalitions in the 2022 UNSA elections and these were the results of the elections.

  • Team Melvine: 24 Votes
  • Team Timiza: 10 Votes
  • Team Imara: 3 Votes
  • The Change Alliance: 2 Votes

Each team has 7 positions which include Chairperson, Vice-Chair, Secretary-general, Treasurer, Sports, and social welfare representative, Student representing international students, and student representing students living with a disability.

Before you form a coalition you must have 7 leaders to occupy the positions. Once you win, all 7 positions are reserved for the winning coalition.

The winning team also represents all 13 University of Nairobi electoral colleges

How UNSA elections work

You might be wondering, why only a total of 39 votes were cast for all the teams. This is because the winning team which forms the (University of Nairobi Students Association Council) is elected through electoral colleges.

There are 13 electoral colleges at the University of Nairobi. The electoral colleges comprise the 10 faculties of the University and Kenya Science, Kisumu, and Mombasa Campuses.  Each Electoral College has three votes which makes it a total of 39 for 13 electoral colleges.
