National Treasury CS Ukur Yatani will today read the budget statement in parliament for the financial year 2022/2023 . Below is a summary of the budget statement and sector allocations.

Kenya Budget 2022/2023

The Budget for the financial year 2022/2023 will be read today (7th April 2022) in parliament by National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani.  Normally, the budget in Kenya is read in the month of June of every year. This year’s budget will be read earlier because of the 2022 general elections.

The projected revenue collection is Ksh. 2.4 trillion. Total expenditure is projected at Ksh. 3.3 trillion. while recurrent expenditure is pegged at Ksh. 2.2 trillion with development and allocations to county government taking up Ksh. 715.5 billion.

The fiscal deficit is projected to decline to Ksh. 862.5B equivalent to 6.2% of GDP in the financial year 2022/2023.

  • Parliament: Ksh 50.2B
  • Judiciary: 18.9B
  • IEBC: Ksh 21.7B
  • Cash transfers to elderly persons: Ksh.17.5B

  • Food security programs: Ksh46.7B
  • Konza City: Sh5.2B
  • Irrigation: Ksh8.5B
  • Tourism fund: Ksh 3.2B
  • Women Enterprise Fund: Ksh 170M
  • National Youth Service (NYS): Ksh13.1B
  • Nairobi Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) project: KSh. 1.2B
  • Nairobi Metropolitan services (NMS): Ksh200M
  • Subsidise farmers: 2.7B
  • Persons living with severe disabilities: Ksh.1.2B
