KNUT secretary general Wilson Sossion has issued a teachers strike notice that will begin on Wednesday 2nd January 2019 protesting teachers working conditions and transfers. Below is part of the statement.

Beginning of the statement issued by Wilson Sossion

We wish all our teachers a Merry Christmas. We wish our parents, the parents of our children a very Merry Christmas.

We wish the leaders of this country who have worked with us a very very Merry Christmas but we can’t promise you that the year will start well.

We urge parents to reorganize their budgets because the Christmas shall be extended into the New Year.

KNUT’S Wilson Sossion on why Teachers will be going on strike in January 2019

The Kenya National Union of Teachers(KNUT) hereby issues a clear notice to the teachers service commission (tsc)that teachers will resort to industrial action as stipulated in Section 18.1 and 18.2 of the 2017/ 2021  collective bargaining agreement, backed  by part 8 and part 10 of the Labor Relations Act with  effect from January Wednesday 2nd2019.

Teachers shall not resume duties until all the outstanding matters are addressed to the satisfaction (End of Statement)

In summary this is why KNUT has issued a strike notice;

Teachers countrywide to strike from January 2, to protest transfers and lack of promotions. They argue that the mass transfer of teachers(3094) is illegal as it has not been approved by the appointment board.
