Amina Mohamed on postponing implementation of competency based curriculum (CBC)
In a statement issued to the press on 15thDecember 2018, Education CS Amina Mohamed cited a number of factors that contributed to the postponement of the implementation of the new curriculum. The full official statement is available in the attached images below. We are however going to first summarize on what the statement means;
Will Pp1, Pp2, Grade1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 be taught in January 2019?
YES: According to the statement, Amina Mohamed indicated that the CBC National pilot will be extended by one more year which means the pilot continues up to 2019. What has been stopped or postponed is the implementation that was to take place in January 2019. That would have seen upper classes adopt cbc.
This also implies that those heading to Class Four from Grade 3 will revert to the old curriculum.

Should Parents Buy Grade 1, 2 and 3 books?
YES: The pilot will still be ongoing. The statement basically means that everything remains as it is. That is Grade 1, 2 and 3 will still teach cbc as it was in 2018.
When will competency based curriculum (CBC) be fully implemented?
According to CS Amina Mohamed’s statement, the national rollout will take place on January 2020. This is to give stakeholders like teachers, publishers, e.t.c time to fully prepare for the same.
