ECD Teachers Pay Rise

Below is part of the statement issued during the pay rise;

(continued)…. alive to these facts when we came into office we embarked on a study to understand how the previous government was interacting with this very important cadre of teachers. Our findings were very disturbing; We had a set of people with different skill set and job group, working on a one year contract and being paid as casuals with no staff numbers.

Today’s brilliant event marks a major milestone to the ECD sector in Kisumu County. The 668 teachers that received their appointment letters today shall be engaged in a three years contract and be renumerated through the IPPD system thus being put in the county’s payroll and immediately acquire Personal Payroll Number.

The County Public Service Board under the chairmanship of Mwalimu Babu Karan has gone further and placed them in job groups that corresponds to their level of certification. Those previously in Job Group ( G ) and earned Ksh. 10, 500 as their basic salary will now earn Ksh. 20, 800 while those in previously Job Group ( H ) with a basic salary of Ksh. 12, 500 will be entitled to a basic salary of Ksh. 23, 780.

Further to this the county distributed 20 million worth of textbooks and exercise books to all ECD centres across the county in the last financial year.

In addition Ksh. 14 million was released in support of feeding program in our ECD centres.
