First year admission guide in Kenya: After years of hard work and determination in your studies, it is finally that time for you to join university and further your studies to achieve your career goals. So, what happens on the first day of admission? What are you supposed to do and not do? What are you supposed to carry and not carry?

Join University fb Groups

Universities students have Facebook groups where they discuss about the happenings in the University. Joining such groups will give you an idea of  what life is like in the University that you will be joining.

Earlier Fee Payment

Does the university require you to make fee payment before the first day of admission or registration? If yes, it is important that you ensure all the fee is paid and if not, you should make plans contact or visit the office of the registrar or dean of students so as to work something out.

Opening Dates

Make sure that you are aware of  opening or reporting dates. It is advisable that you report during the first day of registration. In doing so, you will stand a good chance of getting University accommodation.

If you are lacking school fees, you are allowed to defer your studies in writing.

Don’t miss reporting within the first week of registration without informing the university of the challenges you are facing. Your chance might be taken by another student.

Accommodation

Most Universities offer on campus accommodation to their students. If you are planning to join the university. It is important to know the accommodation plans of the university. Will it be able to suit you? If not what plans for alternative accommodation are available.

If you do not want to reside in University Hostels, then you can make your own arrangements for off-campus accommodation.

Ask around for advice

Asking for advice while at the university is also crucial for a newly admitted student. Get hold of the university map and in case you are lost, ask for directions.

If you know of any person who studied or studies in the university ask him to share his experience with you.

Shopping Checklist

Ensure that you bought all that is needed. University is not like secondary schools where you will just need basic items of use. Then again, no one is going to  inspect your shopping list. You can carry all that you want.
