A total of 100,000 Grade B5 primary school teachers, previously P1, will from July 2020 get a pay rise in a 7 billion deal announced by TSC. The Teachers Service Commission CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia told the national assembly yesterday that Grade B5 teachers will automatically get promotions to Grade C1. In the lucky bunch are also about 5,000 diploma teachers in secondary schools. There are lots of grey areas in the decision of TSC to run Teacher Professional Development by charging teachers to train them on pedagogy. A quick look at Article 237(2) of the Constitution, the Commission is mandated to perform the following functions: Register trained teachers, Review the standards of education and training of persons entering the teaching service and Review the demand for and supply of teachers. TSC: Teachers to Pay 6000 Annually for TPD Training programme
Teachers will be required to dig deep into their pockets to pay Ksh. 6,000 annually for teacher professional development (tpd) training programme that is set to start in April. This is after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) signed a deal with four higher learning institutions to provide the training modules. A total of 472,000 teachers from both the TSC and the private sector will have to undergo the development training six times in their teaching career.
