Reports have emerged that ousted Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has been granted asylum in South Africa, Angola and Namibia. His wife, Grace Mugabe, had earlier fled to Namibia. Jubilee Loses in Kisii as Richard Onyonka Retains Kitutu Chache South Parliamentary Seat
A bruising campaign and subdued voting exercise came to a close yesterday in Kitutu Chache South Constituency, Kisii County. The final verdict of the electorate is that Richard Momoima Onyonka will again be their MP. The outspoken politician garnered 10,122 votes (45.86%) to beat closest rival Anthony Kibagendi of Jubilee, who managed to bag 5,074 votes. The voting exercise supposed to take place on 8th August was postponed after aspirant MP Leonard Mwamba (Jubilee) died on a road accident. NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running Mate Kalonzo Musyoka caught the nation by surprise after announcing withdrawal from the repeat elections that were slated for 26th October. Oparanya, Lonyangapuo Agitated Over Delayed Counties Cash
Operations in most Counties are almost grinding to a halt because of lack of funds. Although the Senate approved release of funds to counties, the national government is yet to do the same. Contractors and County employees are some of the worst affected given some have not been paid since July. Earlier in the week, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya threatened that governors will move to court if the National Treasury does not release money to counties. This morning a section of Kakamega residents took to the streets to stage a peaceful protest to demand Ezra Chiloba’s resignation. The IEBC CEO is under fire for the largely flawed August 8th presidential polls.
