What happens if your child joins PP1 at 3 years instead of 4 [but the child turns 4 years in December of the same year of joining], will he/she be able to sit for national exams without repeating a year?

The ministry of education guidelines require that a child should be of the following ages in Kenya before joining school.

  • 4 years to join PP1
  • 5 years to join PP2
  • 6 years to join Grade 1
  • 7 years to join Grade 2
  • 8 years to join Grade 3

Some schools can allow your child to join school with less than the age stated above but it is advisable to ensure that your child meets the age requirement set by the ministry to avoid consequences in future if the ministry decides to enforce the guidelines.
