Artistes protest outside Safaricom house over Skiza Tunes wrangles

Artistes took their anger and frustration outside Safaricom house protesting over alleged violation of Skiza tunes loyalty agreement. This comes  shortly after Safaricom announced that it had increased Skiza tune pay for artistes.

 

What are Skiza Tunes?

 
When you make a call using Safaricom line you will sometimes hear some music playing  in the background. That is what is referred to as Skiza Tunes. The Skiza Tune comprises of different types of music composed by  different artists.

 
Skiza Tune subscriptions currently go at ksh. 5 per week per song. If you  subscribe to 5 skiza tune songs you will pay ksh. 25 per week

 

According to August 2015 Nation reports,  a new deal was signed between artistes and Safaricom that would  see them earn 15 percent of the revenue from downloads.

It is however alleged that Safaricom has violated the agreement  prompting the artistes to demonstrate.
