Stress is an emotional state healthy persons will go through from time to time. While normal levels of stress don’t have adverse effects, overstressing can lead to health conditions such depression, heart disease, weight gain and many more.

Therefore, it is necessary to manage it before it reaches the point of causing harm. The following are some ways to beat stress.

Take Deep Breaths

Taking deep breaths is a legendary stress buster that actually works. Deep breaths lower stress hormones, heart rate and blood pressure.

Breathe in deeply and slowly through your nostrils. Hold your breath for a few seconds then exhale slowly through your mouth. Repeat the action about 5 times.

Exercise

Engaging in light to moderate exercise has been found to boost ones moods. This is because exercise activates release of endorphins, which in turn improve your mood.

Spend at least 20 minutes every day to walk, cycle or swim.

Take up a hobby

A hobby, especially a physical one, can help you shift focus from stressors to something you really love to do.

Whenever you feel agitated, head to your studio and do some painting or walk to the garden and do some sprucing up.

Sing

Singing has been found to calm one down through reduction of stress hormones.

Singing also reduces stress by taking your mind off stressors and helping you focus on positive vibes.

Get enough sleep

Insufficient sleep cam make you feel cranky and agitated. A good night’s sleep will ensure you wake the next day feeling refreshed and properly rested.

If you are experiencing problems sleeping, avoid naps in the evening, try to go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day.
