A primary school teacher is reported to have committed suicide at Kiriogo village of Nyandarua North Sub County for allegedly not receiving his September salary.
Patrick Irungu, aged 38 years, a teacher at Kirera primary school took his life after he failed to receive his salary following teacher’s strike that was called off two weeks ago.
The deceased body was found dangling inside his house by a relative on under an intriguing circumstance. Confirming the incident Nyandarua North OCPD Morris Assila has said that the body of the deceased was found hanging by a rope it his house.
Though there was no suicide notice left behind by the teacher, it was believed that he might have been depressed by lack of money after the government failed to pay them their September salaries following the one month strike staged by the teachers.
According to the deceased’s father Mr. Gathenya Irungu, the father of two had left for the bank in Nyahururu town on Tuesday morning to check for his September salary but he returned home upset after learning that it was yet to be deposited in his account.
The deceased body has since been moved to Nyahururu District Hospital mortuary.
