This is a story of a startup that has seen seconds of sunset and sunrise in real time. A story that was born in June 2015 by two students from Moi University; Felix Oriedo and George Wayne who are the current cofounders. The team has now expanded to partner with Moses Opiyo (UI/UX designer), Lucy Mwende (Business Developer) and Marvin (Graphics and Design).
‘Well, Google has now become a very close acquaintance but I was devastated when I visited Mombasa and I couldn’t access a platform that would show me restaurants that offered an affordable meal’ said George Wayne. This is when the problem statement was clearly defined by one of the Cofounders. There is a great fissure of connection between restaurant customers and what the restaurants actually offer. The only common offers that are known to any common mwananchi are terrific Tuesday, wacky Wednesday and Debornaires pizza which would sound quite affordable to a chosen audience of the current generation. What about every Kenyan who would a meal offer since ‘free’ is a secret word to a Kenyans attention.
What is SpotMe?
SpotMe – This is an application that provides a platform that offers visibility and interaction to meal offers in restaurant, One can easily check in to a location that has a meal offer and share it to friends. A user can also book and purchase a meal offer through the application which would define the level of interactivity. SpotMe also provides events based on location of the user.
SpotMe modules:
1. Check in feature One can check in to their location and view friends nearby who have also checked in
2. Check offers and events – One can check offers in restaurants nearby and events as well.
3. Purchase meal offers – One can book and buy the offers through the application
4. Holla – One can contact a friend spotted (hook with your crush easily).
We are currently in the 5th month and we have attracted 600 active user in the application and are projecting to get to 1,000 by December 2015. The application has proven to be Easy to Use, Interactive and Fun https://spotme.co.ke/.
