Kenya Red Cross Hunger Report situation

There are over 3 million people in need of assistance which has made Kenya Red Cross to revise its drought appeal to Ksh 2.5 billion The previous drought appeal sought to raise Ksh one billion to support 340,786 people.
In the new appeal, more than 60,000 households (approx 360,000 individuals) are targeted for unconditional cash transfers. 265,000 are targeted for health and nutrition outreaches, and 255,000 people to benefit from 90 boreholes in drought stricken areas.

2017 Hunger Outlook in Kenya

Rains are expected between March and April 2017 in ASAL areas. The onset is delayed.

There is a window of opportunity in Marginal Agricultural zones for farmers to plant fast maturing crops. Farmers needs to be supported to prepare farms and procure seeds ahead of the season.
The pastoral communities will require continuous support until May at the earliest… Their livelihoods will not recover immediately and be productive(body condition will improve but milk production will not be immediate
