Former Meru Governor Peter has made an about turn on the NASA coalition, barely a week after he joined the formation as a co-principal. Munya, who vied on a Party of National Unity (PNU) ticket, had on 4th September joined ranks with NASA to support Raila Odinga for presidency in the upcoming presidential re-run polls.

Munya had cited discrimination and alienation in Jubilee as the party supported his rival and eventual victor Kiraitu Murungi for the Meru gubernatorial seat. During the campaigns, Munya had severally threatened to support NASA if higher forces in Jubilee would go on favouring Kiraitu.

Munya now becomes the third former governor to defect to Jubilee. Last week former Bomet Governor and former NASA co-principal Isaac Ruto joined the president has he visited Kericho County. Ruto said that he left ‘cold’ in NASA and had come home. The other former governor is Moses Akaranga of Vihiga.

President Uhuru through his official Twitter handle said, “the former Meru Governor pledged that he and PNU would give me their support in the repeatelections, after consultations with party loyalists.”

So far Uhuru’s outfit seems to have an upper hand in wooing defectors, all of them losers in various electoral seats. The money factor is obviously at play here as it is believed the Jubilee party is sparing no change in ensuring the president gets as many politicians as possible crossing over to his side.

Both Jubilee and NASA are making significant political realignments as they brace themselves for a bruising re-run. This is after the supreme court of the land nullified Uhuru’s earlier victory on grounds of massive electoral malpractices.
