2024 New Year resolutions; everyone jots them down, but only a handful stick to them to the end. The flimsy excuse we give when asked about abandoned resolutions is usually ‘things did not work out.’

This begs the question; can one draw new year resolutions and seem them through at the end of the year? The answer is yes, it is possible.

Here are some tips on how you can ensure nothing derails you from your plans for the year.

Set Realistic Targets

The biggest mistake most of us make when coming up with resolutions is setting unrealistic targets.

There is no way you are going to make a multimillion company on a junior clerk’s salary.

Set goals that are well within your capabilities. It does not hurt to start small, as long as you do not slump.

Some of the most successful people will tell you that their achievements did not come overnight. They tirelessly toiled over the years before their dreams came true.

Plan well

Jotting down resolutions without a viable plan of action is setting yourself up for failure even before you take off.

Plot a realistic and detailed course of actions that you can execute ably.

You need to formulate your plan in consideration of vital resources such as time and finances.

Split tasks into Parts

Tasks look less daunting and are easier to accomplish when they are split into small manageable parts.

You can take a task or goal and split it into weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly targets. Splitting a task also makes it easier to track progress.

Start with more demanding tasks since you are gassed up and rearing to go at the beginning. Taper out to simpler tasks as the year drags by and you wear out.

Seek Help from others

At times we may hit dead ends despite our best efforts. The easy choice is to quit, but quitting won’t help you achieve a thing in life.

Reach out to family, friends, colleagues, or institutions and seek financial or technical help to see your plans through.

Reward Yourself

You need some motivation to carry on with tasks, especially when they start becoming tiring or boring.

Rewards are a sure way of motivating yourself to carry on. Set specific rewards for every goal you accomplish.

Rewards can be as simple as a chocolate bar or as dear as a holiday; it all depends on what you have achieved and how much it is worth.

Go forth and make 2024 your breakthrough year!
