There are a host of natural practices you can employ to have radiant skin without exposing yourself to harmful chemicals that cosmetics contain. Here are some.

  • Sleep

Insufficient sleep is linked to hormonal imbalance; one of the causes of skin breakouts. When we are asleep our stress hormones, linked to a host of skin problems, are suppressed and happy hormones take over and aid in skin repair.

  • Water

Drinking enough water has a wide range of health benefits that cannot be stressed enough. Water makes up about 70 percent of our bodies, and therefore constitute a good part of our skin.

Water helps in detoxifying our bodies by flushing out bacterial and other toxic wastes that negatively affect the skin. It therefore goes without saying that dehydration cannot be good for your skin.

Experts recommend taking at least 8 glasses of plain water each day. You should even take more if you live or work in dehydrating environments.

  • Diet

Foods that have a high quantity of unprocessed ingredients are less likely to contain chemical harsh to our body and by extension, skin.

A diet rich in vegetables and fruits is especially beneficial to the skin as it supplies vital nutrients used to build healthy skin and ward off infections.

Avoid sugary foods as they cause a spike in insulin levels. Elevated insulin levels aggravate skin conditions such as wrinkles, acne and rashes.

  • Exercise

Exercise help in boosting blood flow to different parts of our bodies. Increased blood flow is beneficial to the skin since it distributes oxygen and nutrients to cells. It also transports toxins away to organs that get rid of them.

Exercise is also beneficial to the skin in the sense that helps reduce stress levels. Stress is known to aggravate skin conditions such as acne and eczema.
