Magoha on hiring of school buses

While speaking at KICD, George Magoha indicated that hiring of school buses for non-academic functions is not allowed. Any person who wishes to use school buses for public transportation services like funeral processions, weddings, political events, etc., should get permission from the ministry of education.

Why school bus hiring was banned

The ministry of education said it had taken the move to prevent misuse of school facilities and also as a COVID-19 preventive measure. That some people were hiring the buses for public use and then return them without fumigation. This posed danger to the health of students using the bus.

Those opposed to the ban

Members of parliament who play a great role in the acquisition of buses, either through CDF or personal donation opposed the move indicating that the ministry of education should only prevent the community from hiring school buses that the ministry of education has purchased for the school, not buses purchased through donations or CDF.

Others opposing the move by the ministry of education have also argued that school buses belong to the community if they raised funds to buy the buses. It is therefore not fair for the community to be barred from hiring the buses at a fee.

Despite the opposition, the Ministry of education directive of still stands and must be adhered to by school administrators.
