KNEC: Total number of KCSE and KCPE candidates statistics, 2016

KNEC Strategic plan: An increasing candidature due to success in the Free Primary Education (FPE) and Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE) programmes that are supported by the government. KCPE candidature has increased from 671,448 candidates in 2005 to 888,971 candidates in 2014 while KCSE candidates rose from 258,919 to 486,412 over the same period.

The KCPE and KCSE candidature is expected to grow close to 1.1 million and 856,000 candidates respectively by year 2020. This will call for an increase in resources and technological advancement in order to competently meet the candidature growth. To achieve this, KNEC plans to review its organisation structure and improve its ICT capacity over the plan period.
