Education CS George Magoha has welcomed the move by Maranda high school to test students for drugs during opening days.

While addressing the press during the launch of CBC classrooms in Kisumu East, Prof. Magoha said “Drug testing is very thoroughly in order because children are using drugs…I don’t know why you want me to comment on the obvious. And let me tell you, we love our children. When we do that (drug testing) is not that we hate our children”

On the rising cases of indiscipline cases in boarding schools, CS Magoha stated “The government of the Republic of Kenya, will deal very firmly with children who are actually criminals. What would you call a child who is burning a boarding school (houses)?”

Maranda high is among the first secondary schools in Kenya to introduce drug testing in school. This is after the schools witnessed two incidences of burning of school properties by students within a period of 6 months.
