Accreditation of engineering courses in Kenya

Alot has been said about accreditation of some engineering courses in several universities in Kenya. The main question that many have been asking is who is to blame when it emerges that  students are doing courses that are not approved in a public university?

Commission  for university education Secretary/CEO  prof. David Some   appeared on Citizen TV’s CHECHE show on Wednesday 16th September 2015 where he indicated that Under the Universities Act, 14 the said Universities can offer Engineering courses in Kenya  however Engineers Board of Kenya says that they recognize degrees from only  4 Universities. He further added that this is the challange that the commission  for unniversity education is facing and the matter has to be resolved in the National Assembly because the conflict is a conflict of law.

The universities that are approved by the Engineers Board of Kenya  and programmes they offer are listed below.

Professor David K. Some however indicated that the problem we are facing is that graduates think about being employed instead of creating employment. If graduates could think about creating employment there could be no worry as the commission for university education recognizes their  degree programmes.
