You do not have to be a trained teacher to be a lecture. You are only required to have earned a PhD in the relevant field (relevant course you want to teach). Degree holders can start teaching in University at the level of Graduate assistant or Research Assistant as they do their masters and move up the career ladder.

Below are levels and requirements of teaching university.

  • Graduate Assistant: Must have atleast an upper second class honors bachelor degree
  • Tutorial Fellow: Bachelor and master's degree.
  • Lecturer: minimum of PhD with 3 years of experience teaching in university and 24 publication points
  • Senior Lecturer: Minimum of PhD with 3 years of experience teaching in university as lecturer and 32 publication points
  • Associate professor: Minimum of PhD with 3 years of experience teaching in university as senior lecturer and 48 publication points
  • Professor: PhD with 3 years of experience teaching in university as associate professor and 60 publication points
