Why should the government find it necessary to protect consumers?

Government protects consumers because;

  • Consumers are likely to be exploited by business people while pursuing profit motive.
  • Safeguards against poor health standards
  • Consumers do not always know their rights
  • Business people left on their own may lower standards of quality of products
  • Consumers are weak because they act individually hence can‘t safeguard their rights due to lack of collective bargain.
