Reasons a calf should feed on colostrum are;

  • It's highly digestible
  • It's highly nutritious and contains vitamins for growth and disease resistance.
  • Has antibodies that enable the calf to resist early disease infection
  • Its good in cleaning the bowel of the calf (has a laxative effect)
  • It is highly palatable
