The main NHIF benefits self-employed contributors get are bed charges cover for inpatient and Ksh. 500 cover for outpatient. However, the benefits differ according to hospital and area.

For example, maternity charges are covered by NHIF in some hospitals while in other hospitals they are not covered.

Additionally, if you go to a public hospital, you will be covered for a number of services than a private hospital.
