KEBS: Imported secondhand electric vehicles should have battery life of 80%

KEBS has today issued a notice in which it has indicated that imported secondhand or used electric vehicles should have a Battery life of at least 80% to be allowed to get into the Kenyan market. Below is part of the statement about the new standards. 

Imported Used electric vehicle battery life requirement - KEBS

Pursuant to the provisions of Legal Notice No. 78 of 28th April 2020; the Verification of Conformity to Kenya Standards of Imports Order, we wish to notify all importers of used/second-hand electric motor vehicles that all used/Secondhand electric motor vehicles must have battery life not less than 80% to be allowed for importation into the country.

Further, used electric motor vehicles imported from Japan, UAE, Thailand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK are subject to mandatory Pre-Inspection by Quality Inspection Services Inc.,(QISJ) which is the - KEBS appointed inspection agent for motor vehicles.
