Govt Partners with AWS to Use Data Analytics for Sports Success

The Kenyan government is partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to use cutting-edge data analytics technology to enhance the performance of Kenyan athletes.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba announced the collaboration, stating, "The Kenya Kwanza administration is very clear that data analytics is the way to go, because if we want to handle the future, then we have to embrace technology in data analytics."

Namwamba highlighted how data analytics could nurture rising talents like 19-year-old Faith Cherotich, a promising 3000m steeplechase athlete. "With a data analytics program, Faith can reach new heights and break records," he said.

Kenya is keen to follow in the footsteps of Australia's success in swimming through pioneering use of data analytics. "Countries globally are adopting data analytics in sports, and we're thrilled to partner with the Kenyan government to elevate sports performance," said Robin Njiru, AWS Regional Lead for East and Central Africa.

The program could also assist Kenya's anti-doping agency by providing valuable data analysis to monitor athlete performance and combat doping.
