Kenya Expands Primary Healthcare Network, Moves Closer to Universal Health Coverage

The Ministry of Health has today indicated that Kenya has made significant progress in its goal to provide healthcare for all citizens. Primary Health Care Networks (PCNs) have been set up in 39 out of 47 counties (83% of all counties)

Roles of PCNs in achieving UHC

Mary Muthoni Muriuki, the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, explained that the role of PCNs in achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) cannot be underestimated as they are the first point of contact for people seeking healthcare services.

To support the establishment of PCNs across counties, 248 master trainers have been trained. Kenya has also completed baseline assessments for all operational PCNs. These assessments will help guide future planning to ensure quality healthcare services.

Muriuki thanked Development Partners of Health in Kenya for their assistance, which contributed to the mentioned milestones.
