EACC to Audit Government Cash Transfer Programme for Elderly

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will today announce plans to conduct a three-month audit of a government cash transfer program that provides financial assistance to older persons and senior citizens. EACC Commissioner Col (Rtd) Alfred Mshimba will officially launch the compliance review exercise at 2:30pm today.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will monitor procedures and practices around the Inua Jamii cash transfer programme run by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection starting this afternoon.

The audit aims to detect any potential corruption vulnerabilities or loopholes in how the cash aid program operates. Under Kenyan law, the EACC has powers to proactively review procedures at any state agency to identify and recommend changes to methods that could enable corrupt practices.

The Inua Jamii cash transfer programme provides regular cash payments to support the basic needs of elderly citizens in Kenya. However, there have been some complaints about mismanagement and delays in disbursement of the funds in the past.
