Best Internet Service Providers in Kenya for Wi-Fi

Choosing the best internet service provider in Kenya for business or home use boils down to price, speed, reliability, availability, and usage needs. Based on our findings, below are the most popular inter-service providers in Kenya.

Safaricom Home Fibre

Safaricom Home fibre Internet allows you to have fast, reliable, and unlimited internet access in your home. This is a nice deal for streaming movies or watching movies online on Netflix and Showmax. However, the internet is only available in few regions. To request for home fiber connection, visit Get Connected

Zuku Internet

Zuku offers unlimited internet, with speed mostly ranging from 1-50 MBs per second. Its prices are however not as friendly as those of Telkom. You might be interested in using it if you want to combine tv and internet for your family.

Faiba internet

Faiba internet is a brand of Jamii Telecommunication Ltd (JTL). Faiba offers internet for home and business users in Nairobi. They are reliable but too expensive. Consider this option if you are looking for Safaricom home fiber alternative.

Telkom Kenya

After re-branding from Orange to Telkom Kenya, a lot has changed about this internet provider. Telkom offers affordable mobile internet services as well as wireless (portable uses routers). Telkom’s home plan internet is so fast (Download speed: 15 mbs and Upload speed: 20 mbs). We use the Telkom home plan internet in our office and it has never disappointed us. They offer unlimited monthly internet at Ksh. 4,000 and it has never disconnected or gone down. I guess this is the cheapest unlimited internet package with high speed that you will ever find in Kenya. But you need a portable Huawei router which goes at Ksh. 5,000. The router is available at Telkom offices in Nairobi CBD.

Poa Internet

Poa Internet is a company that offers unlimited affordable home internet in Kenya. The unlimited home internet package costs Kenya shillings 1500 per month for 4 Mbps plus a one-time installation fee of Ksh. 3500. Poa Internet is available in various parts of Nairobi.

Airtel 4G

Airtel Kenya is the second-largest telecommunication company in Kenya. Although Airtel does not offer fiber internet, its UnlimiNET bundles are affordable.

Starlink

Starlink is a new satellite internet service provider that is growing in popularity in Kenya. The benefit of Starlink is that you can use it in remote areas in Kenya where other traditional internet providers do provide coverage. The most affordable Starlink package costs KES 6,500 per month, along with a one-time hardware installation fee of KES 89,000 and an additional shipping fee of KES 3,100. Starlink says the residential package comes with max internet speeds of 165Mbps. Learn more about Starlink

Liquid Telecom

Liquid Telecom (now Liquid Home) is one of the best choices for commercial use. It offers fibre internet with speeds of up to 100mbs. If you run a large corporation in Nairobi and are looking for a technology partner that offers complete internet and data management services, then you might want to consider them.

Tips of choosing the best Internet service provider

  • Speed and Bandwidth: Most companies provide shared internet. Therefore, select a plan that offers sufficient speed and bandwidth based on the number of people who will be using it and activities, such as streaming, gaming, or video conferencing.
  • Coverage Area: The majority of home fibre internet providers are only available in Nairobi and its environs. Make sure that the ISP you choose is available in your area and has strong network coverage in your location for a stable and consistent internet connection.
  • Pricing and Data Caps: Most people consider lower prices when selecting an internet service provider. However, lower prices also come with compromises like data caps and quality, which may affect your productivity.
  • Customer Service: Try to call customer service of the selected provider like an existing customer and take note of whether their calls are going through. For those who work from home or freelancers, you do not want to be in a situation where the internet goes down, and it takes days to have the problem fixed.
  • Limitations: Read the contract terms or ask the service provider about the restrictions that come with using their internet.
