Reasons for pruning in crop production are;

  • To train the plant so that it can have a desired shape.
  • To remove diseased and unwanted parts of a plant. They may be less reproductive.
  • Control cropping by removing extra vegetation parts and ensure uniform bearing.
  • To facilitate picking e.g convenient for tea and coffee.
  • To ease the penetration of spray since the bush is opened up.
  • To control pests and diseases pruning opens up the bush and helps to control diseases and pests.
