Why the Dean of Students Needs To Look Into the Academic Calendar
Over this holiday, I have made a visit to various universities in Kenya. I have met and interacted with various student leaders and friends. I have also interacted with my Facebook friends who study in Ashford in university. One thing that I have learned out of these interactions is that the issue of accommodation is not only a problem in Moi University, but it affects at least all public universities in the globe.
But there is one thing that makes the accommodation crisis in Moi University to be felt more than in other universities in Kenya. Moi University lacks a defined academic calendar. Moi is operating like a local primary public school.
The dean of students, who is the man in charge of student affairs, needs to coordinate with other departments to ensure that Moi University has a defined academic calendar. Perhaps that might solve the accommodation problem. Then again, the online booking system needs to be improved. Like any other university, room allocation works on, a first come first serve basis and therefore, if the online booking system is defined very few people will complain about accommodation.
