  • They wanted to be like neighboring nations who had kings
  • Wanted a leader who will lead them to war
  • They wanted a human leader/whom they would see
  • Wanted a leader for political stability
  • Samuel was old
  • They wanted a leader a hereditary leadership
  • They wanted to have secular laws
