Negative effect of high compression ratio in an engine is;

  • It can lead to engine knocking or detonation, whereby secondary explosion occurs after the spark plug has fired, causing excessive rapid burning of mixture and a pinging or knocking noise. This can damage the engine/can rod cylinder.
