What is the operational difference between external circlip and an internal circlip?

Operational difference between external circlip and an internal circlip is;

  • An external circlip fits into a groove on the outside of a shaft and is so made that it tends to contract in diameter while an internal circlip fits into a groove on the inside of a hole and is so made that it tends to expand and increase its diameter.
