Change of outpatient facility can be done through NHIF self-care portal or Safaricom SSD code *155#. Change of facility takes place twice in a year. That is January and July.

If you change your outpatient hospital on June 2021, you can use it from 1st July 2021.

For example, if you change your facility between January and June 2021, you will be able to use the hospital from 1st July 2021. If you change the facility between July and December 2021, you will able to use it from 1st January 2022.

Can I get the service in the previous facility after I have changed the facility before the new one being active
by
I think this is not fair, because if your card is active why should you wait that long to access medical help. NHIF should have a system that allows any active member to visit both inpatient and outpatient in any facility otherwise we feel the stakeholders of this project is not sincere. Look at the penalties for defaulter and still after paying you can't use the card, this will take several months. Please try to make these services accessible to members both out/in patient in any NHIF credible facilities. people are mobile and not statue, for example if my outpatient facility is in Meru and I travel to Migori and by bad luck I got sick must I travel back to Meru to access medication?

What about if i cange on 2nd march ,when can i use it?

I have a daughter learning in Maseno, she is not able to access NHIF facilities while she is in school even when she is sick, i have to keep sending money for treatment yet she is a dependant, when she comes home, i change her NHIF to nearest hospital, i still have to pay money for her treatment because NHIF has not approved, in a year i use NHIF once or twice yet i pay monthly, of what is it worth of that NHIF if we cant access treatments when needed?

Nicky, kindly check the answer we have provided above on the time it takes before you start using NHIF after change of facility.

Honestly speaking, nhif should be like vehicle insurance policy that covers you wherever you are. Why should you complicate matters of outpatient and inpatient? That means you are just trying to be canning to us.
2. I think you should have an option of three outpatient and inpatient too. What will happen if I travel from my home area to a different town? I won't be able to access outpatient services.

The way you accept payment from any branch that's the same way we should enjoy services from any accredited hospital whether outpatient or inpatient

I  think NHIF card should used not waiting for this too long period of time because is active. Please rectify on this

You have alot of sense

I think students are using UPI number for free treatment.

I've changed mine today so I can use it tomorrow.. This is the time NHIF should show up for me. I've never used it, if they fail me I'll be a very disappointed person
by
Why should Nhif wait for this long, before it becomes Active after changing facility, it's not fare
by
This is unfair since it takes atleast 1month and atmost 6months depending on the month the change of facility . The member continues paying yet the services cannot be received.
