NHIF Card is issued free of charge for active members. It takes three months (60 days) for your NHIF membership to be active. If you are self-employed, contributions are Ksh. 500 per month.
To add your son or any dependant to NHIF, you need to visit NHIF office near you and fill dependent addition form. There is no way you can do it online.
If you want to change NHIF employed cover to self-employed cover then you need to visit any NHIF officer near you and fill the employment amendment form. Indicate that you want to change from being covered by your employer to being self-employed cover.
NHIF card is issued at NHIF offices in, the county where you applied. In Nairobi it is NHIF Headquarters in Upper Hill. Go and collect your card after 60 days (once you are entitled to be covered).
NHIF cards are printed at NHIF Headquarters in Upper Hill, Nairobi. After 60 days and you are entitled to be covered, go to NHIF Upper Hill office with your ID and they will print your NHIF card. The NHIF card is free. To get to NHIF Upper Hill office from Nairobi CBD, take vehicles headed to community area. If you are not in Nairobi, go to any NHIF office near you.
