  • Represent India in international fora.
  • Chairs cabinet meetings
  • Recommends persons for the award of civil honours and distinctions
  • Can dissolve the Lok Sanha with the advice of the president.
  • Communicates to the president all decisions of the council of ministers, relating to the administration of the affairs of the union and proposal for legislation
  • He is answerable to the parliament about the operations of various government departments.
