Measures the government has taken to conserve and manage forests in Kenya are:

  • Afforestation/re-afforestation e.g Mau, Aberdares, Ngong and Mt. Kenya.
  • Setting up laws to help forest conservation e.g the forest Bill 2000.
  • Creation of forest reserves - the government has gazetted some forest/forest reserves protecting water catchment areas.
  • Creation of awareness through mass media on importance of conserving forests
  • Evicting people who have encroached forests in order to rehabilitate the forests.
  • Encouraging people to use other source of energy to reduce demand for wood fuel.
  • Encouraging people to practice agroforestry.
