Second hand clothes also known as mitumba are popular in Africa because they are;

  • Affordable: New or Designer clothes made in Kenya, for instance Vivo clothes are too expensive. You can’t afford to buy them every month.
  • Unique: You won’t find many people wearing the same type of mtumba clothe as it is to new clothes
  • Good Quality: They are known to last longer.

It should be noted that even in the west there are second hand clothes shops (thrift shops), but not as much as it is in Africa.
