can a landlord take your car, log book book and keys for default of rent?

I have rent arrears and the landlord insisted i give my log book and vehicle as i source for money. He coerced me to write an agreement declaring that i have surrendered the vehicle.

Is it legal for him to hold onto my vehicle due to rent arrear?
