To add your wife or husband to AON Minet Medical insurance cover, you need a marriage certificate or affidavit. You can get an affidavit from any advocate and commissioner for oaths at a cost of about ksh. 1,000 to 2,000. You can also be issued with affidavit from any magistrate court at cost of about ksh. 100 to 200. Not every lawyer can issue you with a marriage affidavit. Only get it from an advocate and commissioner for oaths or magistrate court. Otherwise, your dependants will be suspended or rejected. You cannot add a dependant via the NHIF App. You need to physical visit NHIF office with your children's birth certificate.
To add a dependent (Wife or husband) to NHIF, go to NHIF desk huduma center with your marriage certificate or affidavit and copies of your ID. To get an affidavit go to an advocate or any court near you and pay for one. It takes about one month (28 days) for the spouse to start using NHIF services after adding him/her.
To check NHIF account status via shortcode, sms the word ID followed by your ID number to 21101.For example, ID 12346789 to 21101. You will receive a sms with your account status and dependants covered. If you sms ID number alone without including the word ID before it, then you will receive an sms that reads "Invalid NHIF card Number: 123456789"
