About Kenya and United States of America (USA) Relations
The United States of America (USA) government considers Kenya as a strategic partner in Africa. Kenya has been in the front line in fighting international terrorism which poses a great danger to the US. In 2011. Kenya launched military operations in neighboring Somalia to fight Al Qaeda “affiliate,” Al Shabaab. Al Qaeda has been headache for America.
Kenya US Relations after elections
The election of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto in 2013 presidential elections almost complicated the relations of the two countries. The two believed that the US government played a great role in ensuring that they were charge at the international criminal court (The case was dropped). They argued that the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was collaborating with the US and the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute them.
But the visit of president Barrack Obama to Kenya reduced the tensions between the two countries. Obama assured president Uhuru Kenyatta that the US government stands with the elected government of Kenya.
Kenya is currently among those countries that receive the highest donor funds from the US Government in Africa.
Kenya’s New Constitution also borrows a lot from the US constitution.
